Unfolding story

The debarking of our felled trees took far longer than we thought as it is a very labour intensive and slow process.

A very common question that we are asked all the time is how we treated the logs against bugs and borer.

After a long winter break, attending to commitments in our respective work places at home, Simon and I resumed our log cabin build.

It was with much anticipation that we selected the first 4 logs for the first layer. These needed to be our best logs as the entire log cabin was going to rest on that layer.

Fastening the logs together is of course crucial and a key aspect of building with logs.

One of the first questions that many onlookers ask is how do we hoist the logs so high.

After laying the first few layers we could calculate that it would take about 12 layers of logs to reach ceiling height.

As the build progressed we could calculate that we needed to position about 11 layers of logs to reach ceiling/mezzanine height.

After three months of stacking layer upon layer, we finally reached our last one, the 15th layer.
