Post 2 Who are we?

Saturday, 1 February 2020
A good starting point for research on log cabins is of course literature and YouTube. I’ve listed some of the more interesting books and texts in the Resources tab. There you will also find references to some of the plethora of log cabins videos that we consulted and consumed on YouTube…..sometimes into the early hours of the morning. But first, very briefly, who are we?

Marc and Jean

Jean and I (Marc) have been married for nearly 40 years. We live in Makhanda (Grahamstown), a small University town about 175km south of the log cabin. Our careers spanned all grades of education, from pre-primary to University level. Initially, just after we moved to Grahamstown in the eighties we lived on a small holding called Mistywoods about 10km from town for 11 years. There we kept sheep, pigs and chickens, and had a vegetable patch. We have two daughters, Dominique and Sarah, who now have their own families and live in Kwelera and Cape Town respectively.

Simon

Simon will introduce himself in due course, but he is the chief builder of the log cabin. He was an ex-pupil of mine nearly 35 years ago. He is in the process of re-skilling himself as a timber house builder and only recently completed a log building course in the Wilderness (see reference to this course under the Resources tab). He jumped at the idea of being intricately involved in his first log cabin project and fulfilling our log cabin dream.
